• Make sure that you are using correct charger to charge electric forklift battery. Charger must be matched with the battery. Its output voltage should be same as battery has. 

• Check battery connectors cable are not damages. It can be sign of mismatched charger.

• Charge battery after every shift. Do not store it on low charging as it reduces battery life.

• Water the battery weekly upon full charge. Never water batteries before charging.

• It’s better to use distilled or de-ionized water to cover the plates inside the battery cells.  Unsubmerged cells will quickly lose their ability to absorb and release energy.

• Make sure to charge your battery fully during finishing phase.  When gas bubbles starts to appear its mean your battery is nearly full charged. The negative plate produces hydrogen and positive plate produces oxygen. This bubbling process mixes the acid inside the battery to make uniform acidity level at all areas.

• Always charge battery at open area. If charging area is concentrated then hydrogen and oxygen combination can make explosion. 

• Never charge forklift battery if its too cold or hot.

• Test each and every object before lifting. Small size does not mean light weight object. By hand or moving with your feet you can estimate its weight.

• One of the most important things is that every employee should be aware of his job and the tools which he is using. Any one, who knows the use of equipment, can save himself from many hazards which otherwise may be resulted due to improper use of equipment.

• Always use right tool for specified task. Keep tools in good condition because if any tool has some defects and you are using it hen it can cause problem for you.

• Always use protective equipment to keep safe yourself like if you are working with sharp edge tools then wear gloves. Similarly f you are doing work with fire related equipment then wear safety glasses. Wear safety belt wherever is required.

• When you are dealing with large machinery then you must adopt all safety measures. You should be aware of all instructions related to that machine as different machines have different safety rules. Normally large and heavy machinery requires large space so make it sure that no one is working around it. Properly turn off the machine after using it.

• If you are dealing with lifting and loading machinery then keep in mind their speed limit, loading and unloading capacity, their distance from other machinery etc.

• Maintenance of machinery is very important. Make a maintenance schedule for every type of machine. When your equipment will be in good condition then there are fewer chances of accidents.

• Choosing the right type of fuel is also very important. Never refuel any machinery when its engine is running. Avoid smoking near fuel because these are sensitive to catch fire.

• There are different types of trucks and have slightly difference in their operation. So make it sure that only skill full worker would operate the particular truck to avoid any mishap or damage.   

• It does not depend which type of forklift you use, if you make schedule for its maintenance then you can save cost. Proper inspection can save you from big loss.

• Your seat belt should be of such a colour that is visible so that it could prevent you from any injury.

• There should be proper system of forklift which can check speed, maintenance, and information on regularly basis so that there should be record of every thing. This check and balance will prevent you from future loss or injury.

• Use of horn and back up alarm can also help you in preventing loss at work area.

• Using proper lights for forklift will help you in which direction you are going. This will prevent you not only yourself but also other employees who are working in that area.

• Check each and every part to see if there is any damage, crack, or cuts. Because these small damage can create big problem later on. By proper inspection before hand you can minimize the risk.

• Brake fluid level must be up to mark. If it’s running low then add fluid. More over check rubber hose if there is any leakage.

• Check air pressure in all tires. . If air pressure is low then increase it for smooth operation.

• Change engine filter regularly for smooth operation.

• To raise and lower the loads forklift uses hydraulic system. This system has major components which need to be checked regularly to prevent any injury.

• Hydraulic hoses must be checked regularly to find excessive wear and cracks.

• Normally forklift tires are designs in such a way that these have long life span. But their condition depends upon where forklift is operated. So monitor them regularly to avoid any risk.

• Regular oil change is necessary for gas and propane forklift. While if you have electric forklift then its battery charging on time is an important element.

• Check transmission system regularly.

1. It is recommended to uses Forklift or hydraulic to lift heavy items. Do not try to lift any heavy item yourself. This can cause of Kyphosis and Back pain. You can use the Lift Truck according to your need and place. You can use Electrical Forklift or Fuel Forklift.
2. Wear all the safety equipment such as Hats, Gloves and eye wear. Working without them can harm you in any of the way. Such as, eye wears protect your eyes. A person can be permanently blind if a small particle goes into the eye.
3. Make the area Smoking Free.  The area can get into fire due to a minor spark. Train your people not to burn or smoke near the workplace.
4. Use the symbols clearly to represent any area. Such as No Smoking area can contain a large no smoking mark. A Dangerous place can contain Dangerous symbol. Do not use the symbol in way that people get confuse with them. Use the standard icons.
   
5. Emergency Exits and awareness about that is necessary. Train your staff about Emergency exits. This is also one of the ways to decrease accidents and deaths.
6. Your floor should be Slip Free. Keep the floor non Greasy all the time. Put the Wet Floor Rack on floor if the floor is wet.
7.  Keep Fire Safety equipment near the workplace.
8. I personally recommend that only trained people should enter into the workplace. During their training people would get the training about safety. This will minimize the accidents. Do not let non authorized people to get in.
9. It is better to have an ambulance near the workplace. In chance of any kind accident, bring the patient to hospital without wasting time. Placing of First Aid box is also one of the needs for Workplace.
10. Place Fire Alarms on the work place. This will help to control fire at the very first stage and chances of accident will decrease.
